Torta Ahogada Day

The Torta Ahogada Day 2025 in Guadalajara

This Sunday, September 7, downtown Guadalajara will be overflowing with flavor as it celebrates none other than the Day of the Torta Ahogada—a dish that’s more tapatío than mariachi itself, and one that has every Tragón (big eater) dreaming of fiery salsa.

Torta Ahogada day

Although the official date is September 10, this year the party kicks off early, starting This Sunday, September 7 2025, at 9:30 a.m. on Paseo Alcalde, between Pedro Moreno and Morelos. Picture the scene: proud torta vendors showing off their craft, families enjoying the day, curious tourists, and of course, hungry Tragonas and Tragones ready to take epic bites of this icon of tapatío cuisine.

One of the highlights of the celebration will be the contest “Ponle salsa a tu torta” (“Put Some Salsa on Your Torta”), where creativity takes center stage. Participants will unleash their imagination to wow the judges with unique flavor combinations, and the winner will earn the honor of creating Guadalajara’s most emblematic salsa. Let’s be real—neither the city nor the torta ahogada makes sense without that magical sauce that makes you sweat, tear up, and even sing with pleasure.

FREE TORTAS!

And that’s not all. The official Cultura Guadalajara Facebook page announced that there will be free tortas through a special dynamic revealed the same day. Yes, you read that right: free. So get ready, because the line will surely be long, but that first bite will be worth every second of waiting.

Like any true tapatío fiesta, mariachi music will also be there to set the mood. The goal is for the Municipal Day of the Torta Ahogada to be more than just a food festival—it’s a celebration of identity, flavor, and local pride.

So if you’re a Tragón at heart or a passionate Tragonesa, this event is for you. There’s no better way to honor Guadalajara than with a torta in hand, mariachi music in the background, and your mouth full of salsa.
