5 Restaurants Nominated as “Best Restaurant in Jalisco” by MexBest

On August 20, the Perla Tapatía will host the fifth edition of MexBest, an event that will bring together industry leaders to recognize the best in Mexican gastronomy and hospitality.

During the event, 250 guests from the industry will gather to jointly celebrate the best of Mexico. There will be activities and experiences showcasing its culinary, cultural, and tourism essence. In addition, 30 awards will be presented to honor excellence in hospitality, restaurants, and bars, along with the 2025 Reader’s Choice Award, selected by the public.

Best Restaurant in Jalisco

As part of the process, the jury visits more than 100 restaurants, not only to taste outstanding dishes but also to evaluate the wine list, service, use of ingredients, and innovations in the industry. This year, Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta are participating in the nomination for Best Restaurant in Jalisco with: Xokol, Alcalde, La Matera, PalReal, and Tintoque.

Xokol (Guadalajara)

The meaning of Xokol in Nahuatl is “pinto corn,” a tribute to Mexico’s cultural and culinary wealth, becoming a true journey through the flavors of the country. This incredible gastronomic project began seven years ago with chefs Xrysw Ruelas and Oscar Segundo.

The restaurant’s mission is to create Mexican cuisine through corn and seasonal products, emphasizing small-scale farming and showcasing Tapatío identity.

Best Restaurant in Jalisco

Alcalde (Guadalajara)

This restaurant is distinguished by having a “living menu” featuring high-quality products, respecting the seasons, and bringing ingredients into contemporary gastronomy without unnecessary artifice but with plenty of flavor. Led by Chef Paco Ruano, this offering—known as cocina franca—delivers dishes that stimulate the senses of taste, sight, and smell, with exquisite presentations and diverse textures.

La Matera (Guadalajara)

This fascinating Argentine-style restaurant offers diners everything from fine cuts of meat to pizzas and seafood. It also boasts more than 200 wine labels from both the New and Old World.

PalReal (Guadalajara)

A benchmark of Tapatío gastronomy and a key destination for those seeking fine dining in the city, this venue is led by Fabián Delgado. His proposal features fresh, high-quality ingredients that enhance flavors, taking diners to another level with every bite.

Tintoque (Puerto Vallarta)

A Mexican restaurant with a creative cuisine, offering designed dishes inspired by recipes and local products from Mexico’s Pacific coast, brought to life with the influence of the kitchens and travels that have shaped the life of co-owner and Vallarta native Chef Joel Ornelas.
